Trick or Treat
The Halloween street party in Nevada City is one of our favorite events of the year. We love how people rent rooms at the Outside Inn so they can set up in a long line to pass out candy and admire costumes. We love how many people dress up, often creating stories with their kids like a farmer and baby chick, or Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Everyone gets into the fun. The Outside Inn hosts a wonderful haunted garden path which is perfect for younger children with lots of inflatable glowing attractions. For those looking for a scarier scare, a local home hosts an extensive Halloween display along with a haunted house and haunted maze. Last year, Anika volunteered to participate in the haunted maze. Anika and her friend became zombies stranded in the graveyard. What a fun way to grow into new Halloween fun.
Anika and Jessica did an amazing job creating their costumes and makeup. Super creepy.
If you enjoy a street party with costumes, Halloween in Nevada City is a dream come true. Halloween is a true community event bringing together families to celebrate the season. A few of our favorite features include the group that rents rooms at the Outside Inn near downtown. They set up their chairs in a line in front of the hotel so kids parade past in costumes Trick or Treating at each person. It's delightful for both sides because they obviously enjoy the kids, and the kids enjoy trick or treating, of course!
Then we go through the Haunted Pathway through the grounds of the Outside Inn. This little walk is perfect for younger trick-or-treaters because it leans into playful displays featuring pumpkins and blow-up lit decorations.
Last year, Anika and Jessica volunteered at the famous neighborhood haunted house (ask anyone in town for directions). They were zombies in the Haunted Garden Maze, which is great fun with a few scares. I've never gone into the real haunted house (built throughout a garage) on Halloween because I hear that it is really scary :).
And many homes make the celebration extra-spooky with beautiful decorations in their yards. When an old Victorian features seasonal goodies, that's a treat.
Another favorite is seeing our friends and family out enjoying the festivities. And the creative costumes!
We are thankful to everyone in the community that supports and creates such a magical street party for Halloween! Creating magical memories 🎃
