Senior Year

It’s that special time of year when the colors of the trees start changing and the air starts feeling crisp - it’s senior portrait season!

Senior portraits are a tradition that many high schoolers, and/or their families (😂) look forward to as a way to commemorate the end of an unforgettable chapter in their lives. While senior portraits have traditionally been posed and a bit formal, my sessions are far more creative and unique, including vibrant colors and backgrounds, interesting props, and even pajamas with friends. Whether you want to go with a classic style or embrace something more modern, I help seniors express their true style. So come along and let’s explore why senior portraits are awesome, and why everyone should book a session!

I photograph in the Nevada County area. I genuinely appreciate and love teenagers. Seriously. I enjoy talking to them and listening to their plans and interests. We work together on a yearbook photo. All sessions are respectful and interesting. I am an LGBTQ ally. I have invisible disabilities of my own. My goal is to be inclusive, validate, and celebrate who they are today. They've traveled a long way, through many years of school, including a pandemic. And, yet there is so much more to discover. Adventures to be had. The end of high school is the beginning of the rest of their lives. Let's stop for a moment and enjoy the view.

Senior Portraits - More than a Yearbook Photo

Sessions are a collaboration with the senior, potentially their family, and myself. I share a Style Guide, for she/he/they ideas. Family is welcome to come along. And/or bring a friend. I even have Friend Sessions where you can take photos at the same time. I want families to have their visual legacy, so all sessions include a digital code for downloads. Galleries can be password protected. And I never share images until everyone has seen them and likes them. Prints and more are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring a friend?

Yes! The experience is mainly for you. Everything is more fun with a friend. We can take a photo or two of you together as well. That said, we can create a Friendship Session which is basically 3 sessions at once (you, your friend, and both of you together). This is a little longer, and your friend could contribute to the session fee since it's more investment. I take time editing and creating unique galleries for both families, as well as portraits of you together.

How many portraits will be in my gallery?

This depends on how long we spend together. I take classic photos and candids, along with artistic "play" portraits using lights and prisms as time allows. You will have at least 20 images in your gallery.

Does Lenka post photos without asking you first?

I do not put any photos in your gallery that look awkward or between expressions. I don't want you to worry about photos that you don't like showing up online. At the same time, images help future families find me and trust me. We can work out ways for us both to win-win.

Are photos enhanced/retouched?

I do not believe in extensive retouching. At the same time, I want you to see how fantastic you look. If your skin is mostle clear, I'll fix any unwelcome blemishes (don't worry about them). However, if I need to spend a lot of time, I will ask for your favorites before I invest ages in corrections. I never treat skin with an airbrush effect that leaves you looking plastic. It's fine to not have any touch-ups as well, just let me know. In addition, I never remove parts of you like moles or freckles. You look good no matter how you look!

What do sessions look like during a pandemic?

Thank goodness we seem to be on the other side of the pandemic. Still, healthy choices are good ideas. I ask that if anyone is actively sick, they call, even last minute, and reschedule. And I do the same for you. We all do our best to keep each other healthy.

Testimonials

“My favorite thing was that the photo session wasn't stressful. I didn't have to pose-pose. I had fun. We laughed.
I worry with posing, that I won't pose right and it will look funky. Or that I won't pose right and the photographer will get mad at me. Lenka lets me be loose and we talk during the time so it's not awkward, and it's not super serious. It feels relaxed. And I know that Lenka won't post anything without permission.”
